Scandal at the Ottoman Museum in Constantinople (Istanbul)

Scandal at the Ottoman Museum in

Constantinople (Istanbul)

Violation of the Religion feelings and an Attack on Christianity

The Golden arm with one of the fingers of St. John the Baptist (which baptized our Lord Jesus) kept in Ottoman Museum in Istanbul (Constantinople) was recently exposed as one of the pieces which belonged to Prophet Mohammed?????

Last year during a visit in the Ottoman Museum in Istanbul, it was noted that the Golden arm with one of the fingers of St. John the Baptist was kept in a special room under the name “Treasury room”. This holy relict for Christianity was kept there separate.

Here is how it looks last year:

Arm and skull of St. John the Baptist

1The skull of St. John the Baptist was originally in the possession of the Byzantines and fell into Ottoman hands after the conquest. This relic was presented by Mehmed II (1451-81) to the Mara Despina (Despotovic), daughter of the Serbian king. Subsequently it become the property of Cezayirli Hasan Pasa, and after his death brought to the palace around 1790.

2 Rock crystal case, late 16th century Ottoman.

3The arm of St. John the Baptist and its case belonged to the Byzantines prior the conquest. In 1484 Bayazid II (1481-1512) sent it as a gift to the Knights of Rhodes. It was later discovered in Lefkase Castle in Cyprus and brought back to Istanbul in 1585.

This year the Golden arm with one of the fingers of the St. John the Baptist together with Skull is exposed in the Chamber of Sacred Relics, (sacred properties belonging to the Prophet, the first four caliphs, and the companions of the Prophet are kept in this room.

It is written on whole that Allah sent many Prophets

Secret relicts

The first two areas located at the entry have been named as the Sadirvanh Sofa (Sofa with Fountain)

The first room on the right is the Audience Chamber (Azrhane) where those who come to see the sultan are accepted.

The Second room in the in the corner is the Privy Chamber in which the sultanate throne and Prophet Muhammad’s Mantle (Hirka-i Saadet) are kept. This structure is called the Chamber of Sacred Relics, because sacred properties belonging to the Prophet, the first four caliphs, and the companions of the Prophet are kept in this room.

On the left of the Sadirvanli Sofa, there is the Chamber of Sacred Relics (Has Oda Kogusu), which is now called the Destimal Oda after the 18th century.

The Chamber of Sacred Relics was formed in the 19 century by closing the porticos in front of the chamber.

It is written on the whole on left side of the photos that Allah sent many prophets before the Mohammad. Indirectly it is said that other’s before the Mohammad are less important. This quotation touches religious feeling of many Christians and Jews visiting the place.

These holly relics for Christianity are now exposed also together with some Islamic relicts (turban). Looks like that all is in service of Prophet Muhammad....
